in this my blog post, I will be adding in evidence and notes to show how I got certain ideas that I then would be adding into my essay. I will also be showing images of my first drafts and any corrections/changes I made to it and then be explaining why I did that.
mind maps

I decided not to look into prompt 2 as I had no initial interest in it.
notes
Prompt of choice: between prompt 1 and 3 I decided I would go for the 3rd prompt because I like the idea of looking into the whole dystopian theme of games and films.
For prompt 3, it asks us to choose a game or film with a dystopian theme and develop a thesis that explores a critical contextual aspect of the genre. With this in mind I would be deconstructing the game or film of my choice in its entirety or focus on a discrete scene/event within it. I would either pick an object to focus on for example car or sword in the film/game and explaining how that object brings out the dystopian theme the most. And if I were to choose a scene I would analyse it and explain how and why it stands out in the whole movie/film.
For the 3rd prompt I have chosen dune 1/2 . and in this film I will be focusing on the outfits and how they bring out the dystopian vibe.
Essay structure: introduction, section 1 , section 2 , conclusion
Introduction:
Introduction to the prompt, state the purpose of what I’m talking about ( film/ game of choice and what I am focusing on)
Section 1:
Discuss what it is I am talking back – in depth for example scene or item in the film or game and what it is I chose to go into depth about it.
Section 2:
Linking the scene or item to the dystopian genre . why? Where? What? When?
Why does it link to dystopian genre ?
Why does this specific scene bring out the dystopian genre the most?
Why does this fit well with the dystopian genre?
How is it dystopian?
Conclusion:
Conclude the point I was making. My final thoughts on the prompt.
Games/films
- Cyberpunk edgerunners/2077
- Blade runner
- Alita battle angle
- Dune 1 & 2
- Jupiter ascending
- Elysiums
- Ghost in the shell
- Akira
- Ghost runner
- The lorax
- Trigun stampede
- The hunger games
- Maze runner
- Pacific rim
- Bio shock
- Fallout
- Psycho-pass
- Beserk
- Serial Experiments Lain
- The promised neverland
- Attack on titan
- Mad max
- Planet of the apes
- Divergent
- Tokyo ghoul
- Alice in borderland
- Stray (game)
- Final fantasy 7 rebirth
- Neon genesis evangelion
What I could focus on in each game/film
Final fantasy 7 – weapons, outfits/character design
In final fantasy I could mainly focus on weapons and outfits as they are the most eye-catching in the game and I think they bring out the dystopian theme ion the game the most
Blade runner – environment, cars
In blade runner I would focus on cars as they are very dystopian and bring out that theme the most.
Akira – vehicles, environment
The most popular feature in his film would have to be the vehicles. them alone have gained popularity over the world they have also become inspiration for a lot of things worldwide. So this would be the thing I focus on mainly.
Stray – environment.
The environment in this game would be the most dystopian thing about it so I would only focus on this alone
Dune 1&2 – outfits, environments, character design
For dune I would focus on the dystopian outfits of the second film mainly as they weren’t really shown a lot in the first movie. I think the outfits bring out the dystopian genre minus the advanced vehicles and technology I think the outfits bring out the most dystopian vibe compared to anything else.
Cyberpunk edgerunners/2077 – cars, outfits , environment, character design
With this show/film it would be difficult to focus only one dystopian item/things as everything about this game screams dystopia . but if I were to choose it would have to be the character design/outfits and environments.
Ghost in the shell – cars, outfits/character design
I think the outfits in this game/film brings out the dystopian vibe so I would focus on that.
Alita battle angel – weapons, environments, character design
I would only focus on the character design and weapons even though this whole film is dystopian.
Neo genesis evangelion – vehicles
The vehicles in this anime bring out the dystopian theme.
Introduction draft
For prompt 3 I have decided to deconstruct dune 1/2 and focus on the whole lore behind the still suits and how they work and are made for everyday life on dune. It helps them collect their own water source as that planet mostly sand with little to no water.
Section 1
(facts about the still suit) ( more info will be added in actual final draft)
The still suit recycles every drop of water in the human body to ensure nothing is lost. Through moving around in a harsh climate, an average person on Arrakis could lose more than 10 Liters of water daily through their pores. The still suit reduces that potentially disastrous loss to less than 5 millilitres. They use the water recycled from the suit as drinking water. The water is recycled from things like bodily fluids , sweat etc.

Section 2
( sentence starters)
The still suits bring out the dystopian theme of the film by….
Still suits link with the dystopian film by…
To link this with the prompt…
The stillsuits give us an idea that the world in this film is a dystopian world. This is because the way the still suits work gives us an idea that they’re meant for survival. This is because in both of the movies, explains how the still suits work for example, explain to us that they are meant so whoever is wearing it is able to create their own water source. They do this by recycling bodily fluids such as sweat for example. Also, the the way the suits just look can already tell us that they are from a dystopian film. The whole design of the suits also gave us an idea but they’re meant for survival such as it being a full bodysuit and it being tight fitted. The suits also come with compartments where you can store things such as weapons which also gives us an idea that they are made for survival.
( I am still coming up with ideas to put into my second section about the still suits and why they link to the dystopian theme of this world that I am going into depth about)
Conclusion
To Conclude this deconstruction of dude and the still suits featured in this film for the third prompt I would say that xplore a critical contextual aspect of this genre. I had also went into that of an item featured in this film which were the still suits. This is because I thought that out of the many dystopian things featured in this film I thought that the still suits really gave a strong dystopian vibe. This is because from first glance you can already see that they have built for survival which is what the whole dystopian theme is about….
( I am still coming up with ideas to put into my conclusion)
Hand written Drafts

Before moving onto writing up my actual essay draft, I first decided to hand write it out to so I could write down ideas as I went along. After writing out nearly half of it, I asked for feedback from some of my peers. they had made some changes and notes and let me know things I could add in . they also helped me with grammar and structuring my essay as I’m aware that is something I tend to struggle with . overall, the feedback I got was a big help and allowed me to write up an even better draft.
REASERCH

To get a better idea on the functions of still suits I watched some videos of the breakdown of the outfits . in these videos they went into detail about the features of the suit and the functions which helped me get a better understanding.
